Influence of the initial chemical composition on the mineralogical composition of a metamorphic rock

Metamorphic processes can be considered, to a first approximation, as isochemical. This means that they do not change the chemical composition of the rocks (except, however, for fluids). Thus, a layer of limestone initially intercalated in a marl, gave, after metamorphism, a layer of marble (M) intercalated in amphibolites (A).
